Ruth Welburn

Ruth Welburn was born in Calgary and grew up in Alberta. She attended the University of Alberta in Edmonton for her first year in education, but dropped out after one year and went into medical laboratory technology. She worked and taught medical laboratory technology.

She is the proud mother of three sons, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

When her youngest child started kindergarten, Ruth went back to the University of New Brunswick to finish her bachelor’s degree and get a master’s degree in microbiology.

Since graduating, she taught and worked in university research labs in Fredericton, Calgary, Melbourne, Australia, and Victoria in microbiology, virology, and infectious diseases. She is a published researcher in virology and microbiology. 

Ruth is an award-winning author of five books, many short stories, and published articles.

Now retired, Ruth lives in beautiful Victoria on Vancouver Island where she continues to combine her love of research and writing.
